Maastricht vs PSV Reserves Predictions

With three wins and a draw from their last five Eerste Divisie outings, it’s been a decent few weeks all told for Jong PSV after their shaky start to the campaign. Dennis Haar’s men moved into the top half of the table on match day nine with a 2-1 comeback success at home to Jong Ajax, and they’re seeking a third consecutive league victory this Friday when they face MVV at De Geusselt.

Goals from Ramon Lundqvist and Joel Piroe helped Jong PSV overturn a 0-1 deficit against defending champions Jong Ajax at De Herdgang last week, a result which backed up their decent 2-3 success away to Roda JC on match day eight.

After a poor opening to the season which saw Jong pick up just five points from five matches, Dennis Haar’s side are now up to 9th in the standings and starting to show the kind of form which saw them register six wins from their final eight games last term.

It’s important to note though that Jong have collected ten of their current 14 point tally in Eindhoven, with just one win and one draw gained on the road from five fixtures.

That seems to be the reason why Jong are rated as the outsiders by the bookies going into this Friday’s encounter at De Geusselt, but the price difference between the teams makes little sense when you also take MVV’s recent home record into account, as well as their head to head history against Jong.

Ron Elsen’s side have lost three of their four games at De Geusselt in 2018/19, including a 0-3 hammering at the hands of Den Bosch a fortnight ago; and they’ve beaten Jong PSV just once in ten previous meetings.

Maastricht will be feeling rejuvenated heading into this clash after a shock 0-1 triumph at 4th placed Twente last weekend, but consistency has hardly been their forte in the opening nine games of the campaign, and the hosts are opposable at a shade of odds against, considering they’ve only bested bottom side Dordrecht in front of their own supporters.

Only goal difference separates the pair at this early stage with MVV 10th, but we expect Jong PSV to edge this and gain further momentum following their fine results so far in October.

Jong PSV are actually seven places and five points better off than they were at the same stage last term – a reminder of how well they did to eventually finish 5th.

Dennis Haar and his squad will now have their sights set on a similar showing after clicking into gear, and they can take another decent step forward here with a 1-2 win.
