Macclesfield vs Leyton Orient Predictions

Sometimes events outside of the game remind us that football is just a sport and although there is great passion involved in the game, there are other things which should take priority. The death of Justin Edinburgh in the off season reminded us of exactly that but after leading Leyton Orient back to the Football League, Orient will hope that they are able to kick on and this weekend’s visit to cash-strapped Macclesfield Town presents an excellent opportunity for a further three points.

This season looks like it will be another uphill battle for Macclesfield Town as they bid to ensure their survival in the Football League and given that they opened the campaign with a defeat and with memories of how long it took them to get off the mark last term, they will be determined to find a victory as soon as possible. However, they will know that if they are to accomplish any of their targets this season then they need to be tighter at the back, and with ex-England centre back Sol Campbell at the helm, it is certainly an area which he knows all about.

Making the trip to the Moss Rose Ground is a Leyton Orient side who managed to emerge from their emotional season opener in the best possible fashion as they secured the win along with their first clean sheet of the campaign. A solid defence provided the foundations of their National League title win last season and they finished with the best defensive record in that division. A solid opening day performance certainly suggests it is also going to be the foundations they look to build on again this season.

With both sides emphasis on defence, albeit for different reasons, we can see this fixture being quite a close battle. The hosts may have struggled at the back last season, but much of those goals conceded were before Campbell took charge and given that their visitors also like to keep things tight, we think that backing there to be less than 2.5 goals scored represents the best opportunity for a decent return.
