Macclesfield vs Newport County Predictions

A strong start to the season has always been an essential factor in any sides bid to accomplish the goals they set themselves at the start of the campaign and this Tuesday in League Two sees a Newport County side, who have achieved exactly that, look to continue their excellent start as they travel to face off against a Macclesfield Town side who will not exactly be disappointed with the progress they have made so far.

There was plenty of reasons to be hopeful for Macclesfield Town last season as they had just reclaimed their spot back in the Football League and were on the way up. However, poor form in the league and financial troubles off the pitch soon put the club in trouble, and although Sol Campbell came in and performed miracles to keep them in the league, the Silkmen are now having to adapt to life without the former Spurs and Arsenal defender.

Thankfully, adapt they have and this season Macclesfield are looking like they belong as they have claimed 11 points from their eight matches so far. However, their work is far from complete and if the Silkmen are to survive for another season, then a strong showing at home will be essential.

Newport have started their season in an excellent manner and they have proven themselves to be very tough to get the better of.  Michael Flynn’s men head into match-day seven having scored just seven goals in their eight matches, but their defensive steel is what should really take centre stage in this analysis.

The defensive strength of the hosts means that they have conceded just two goals in their opening seven matches and with that sort of record, it should come as a surprise to nobody to learn that they have the best defensive record in League Two.

The defensive steel of the visitors means that we cannot see this one being a particularly high scoring affair, especially when you consider that their hosts are not exactly fluent in front of goal and have scored just nine times this season.

This lack of goals is something which we are sticking with in the correct score tip and with the last meeting between these two sides ending in a 0-0 draw, we think that backing the same scoreline again is the way to go.
