Malaga vs Alaves Predictions

This has the makings of a tough game for Malaga, who are just starting to look nervously over their shoulder at the relegation scrap that is going on beneath them. Up against a well-organised Alaves side, they will struggle to bag all 3 points.

La Liga saw another managerial casualty this week as Malaga sacked coach Marcelo Romero after less than 3 months at the helm. His 10 league games saw Malaga collect just 5 points so it didn’t come as a massive shock. His replacement is former Sevilla and more recently Marseille boss Michel and he has a big job on his hands to try and turn the team’s fortunes around.

Malaga are still missing a few players through injury and come into the game having won just 1 of their last 15 competitive games. It’s been a truly miserable winter on the Costa del Sol and defensively they have looked vulnerable for even longer. Malaga have conceded in 92% of their league games this season and average 1.65 goals conceded per game. On a more positive note, top scorer Sandro Ramirez is fit again and with 5 goals in his last 8 starts, could be worth backing to score anytime in this one.

Alaves are made of stern stuff though and have only lost 3 of their last 22 games in all competitions. They had players sent off in 2 of those defeats and the other was against Barcelona so they should still come into this game with real momentum, particularly having held title-chasing Sevilla on Monday night. They average 1.38 points per game away from home and only the current top five have picked up more away points than them.

Malaga may get some kind of reaction from having a new boss at the helm but it’d have to be a dramatic one for them to win this game and there looks to be value in backing Double Chance – Alaves or Draw at 5/6.
