Malmo vs KF Drita Predictions

This tie looks to be as good as over already, with Malmo taking a comfortable advantage into this week’s 2nd Leg. They were always strong favourites to progress and with home advantage in Sweden, will fancy they can chalk up a very convincing aggregate win.

Drita have already made history by becoming the first Kosovan side to win a competitive game in Europe. They progressed from two preliminary games against opposition from Andorra and Gibraltar and there was a real buzz surrounding their match last week, one of the biggest games to have been staged in Kosovo itself given even the national team have played all their competitive matches in Albania.

However it didn’t go to plan as far as the hosts were concerned, with Malmo showing their class and running out 3-0 winners. Amor Traustason, who only last month played in the World Cup for Iceland and former Swedish international Markus Rosenberg were both on target to put Malmo in pole position to progress to what would be a much trickier tie against FC Cluj of Romania.

The 2nd Leg should be a mere formality for them and while they may consider rotating players, they will be keen to build some momentum. Malmo had a desperate first half of the season in Sweden and already look out of title contention, so Europe takes on extra significance for them. They appointed Uwe Rosler as their new boss last month and he is yet to lose any of his 3 matches at the helm so far.

Malmo have scored 8 and conceded just 1 under the former Brentford boss and their forwards will fancy they can add to their tallies and get into some good form by notching a few goals here. They have a four day break after this game until their next league clash, which may see Rosler resist the urge to make wholesale changes and given they’ve only just returned from a month off, fatigue should not be a factor.

Drita will be hungry to perform on a bigger stage than they are used to but realistically they are likely to be outclassed again. While they haven’t lost since last September in their domestic league, Kosovan football is clearly still very weak at club level and against opponents from stronger leagues they will be found wanting.

They needed Extra-Time in their previous two rounds against opposition from tiny countries to progress but the Swedish champions are a huge step up in class and it seems inevitable that they will be found wanting again here.

Overall backing Malmo -2 Handicap looks good.
