Malmo vs Ostersunds Fk Predictions

This is perhaps the most interesting game this weekend in the Swedish Allsvenskan. It features two sides who have recently changed managers for very different reasons. Both teams are looking to rebuild having enjoyed considerable success in 2017 before falling upon harder times since.

Malmo were the champions last term but their title defence got off to a nightmare start which resulted in the dismissal of coach Magnus Pehrsson. Uwe Rösler was appointed to replace him last month and things have certainly picked up since. Malmo won their first league game after the summer break by a 4-0 margin at Sirius last weekend and were easy 3-0 winners in Kosovo in what could have been a tricky Champions League game in midweek.

They should take confidence into this one but the same can be said of Ostersunds who upset the early season league leaders last time out by winning 2-1 at Hammarby. They are under the caretaker management of Ian Burchnall after Graham Potter, the man behind their miraculous rise, left to join Swansea.

This is likely to be an even sterner test though. It’s a bit of a mystery why Malmo were so poor in the opening third of this campaign but their quality cannot be doubted. To put things in some perspective, they’ve won the Swedish Allsvenskan in 4 of the last 5 seasons so it’s a huge shock to see them down in 10th. However they really do look to have regrouped over the summer break and are clearly playing for their new boss with 7 goals in 2 matches under him so far.

They will fancy they can notch up a few more here. Ostersunds aren’t a side that is known for their defensive prowess, with a clean sheet ratio of just 17% in the league this term. They’ve conceded 1.33 goals per game and 67% of their away games have produced over 2.5 goals in total. As they showed in their last match, they are a team that is willing to have a go on the road even in tough away fixtures, but that could just play into Malmo’s hands.

The hosts are playing with belief again and they have more attacking quality than any other team in Sweden, so going for Malmo to score over 1.5 goals appeals.

Likewise going for Markus Rosenberg to score anytime looks good. He has bagged 3 goals in 2 matches since the summer break and looks full of confidence right now.
