Malta vs Faroe Islands Predictions

It’s fair to say that Saturday’s match up in the Ta Qali National Stadium isn’t exactly the most enticing of fixtures. Euro 2020 qualifying group F minnows Malta face off against the team fully expected to reside in the spot directly above them, Faroe Islands.

Neither of these teams are in any great spell of form coming into this match, but then again they very rarely are. Malta especially, who spend their time in the depths of the FIFA World Rankings and rarely show any sign of being able to break into the top 100.

Their last outing was actually a home clash with Faroe Islands in the UEFA Nations League, resulting in a 1-1 draw to extend their winless streak to 16 matches. This goes back almost two years, and even more impressive is the fact that they haven’t won a competitive match since 2013.

Malta have actually picked up some half decent results recently though. They have drawn four of their last eight outings and three of their last six at home. They may be without a win in almost four years on home soil, but they can make themselves tough to beat against the lower ranked sides in the world.

Faroe Islands are certainly one of those. Their draw in Malta in November made it five games without a win for them, and away from home they struggle even more. They haven’t won an away game since 2016, losing five of their seven matches since.

That being said, even the goalshy Faroe Island’s will be confident of finding the net against Malta. The hosts haven’t kept a clean sheet at home in any of their last 11 matches, and recently they were hammered 5-0 when Kosovo paid them a visit.

Malta have managed to find the net in four of their last eight at home though, and Faroe Islands have kept just three clean sheets in their last 30 away games.
