Manchester United vs Rostov Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Manchester United’s hopes of a cup treble ended on Monday as they valiantly battled to a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup, unaided by Ander Herrera’s first half red card. However, they have already won one trophy this season and are still in a good position to challenge for the Europa League.

They predictably had trouble when they visited Rostov in the first leg last week, with the artificial pitch causing some issues and their general poor form on the road in Europe leading to them drawing the first leg 1-1. They do have a crucial away goal though and will feel confident of their chances of beating Rostov at Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s defeat on Monday does make it three games without a win for them, but the latter of these two failures can be forgiven, given the tough conditions. They have won seven of their last 11 games in all competitions too, and at Old Trafford they have won all four of their Europa League games this season, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one.

Rostov have been massively impressive in Europe this season. They only qualified for the Europa League for the first time last season and got eliminated at the playoff stage. This season saw them qualify for the Champions League for the first time, and they made it through both qualifying stages by beating Anderlecht and Ajax, before finishing 3rd in a group that included Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSV Eindhoven. They even managed a shock 3-2 win over Bayern Munich at home, so they are certainly a team on the rise.

The Russians did start the domestic season in a poor way though, and that leaves them in a disappointing 8th position in the Premier League table. They are unbeaten in nine games in all competitions, but six of these have ended all square and away from home they have won just two competitive games this season.

In Europe they remain without a victory on the road since their qualifying win against Anderlecht. They have lost to Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid and drawn with Ajax, PSV, and Sparta Prague.

To make matters worse, they will be facing a well rested Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish striker is almost a definite to start after being suspended for three domestic games, especially with both Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial doubtful. He has scored 26 goals in 40 appearances since joining Manchester United and 14 of those have come in his 19 home matches. Backing him to score anytime at 4/6 looks the best option for our goalscorer predictions.

Manchester United are understandably strong favourites for this one. They have won ten of their last 13 home games in all competitions and seven of these have been by more than a single goal. Considering Rostov’s poor form on the road this season and the fact they were battered 5-0 at Bayern Munich, I think a Manchester United -1.5 Asian Handicap Win at 1.800 alongside a 3-0 correct score predictions at 6/1 is the best option here.
