Manchester United vs West Ham Predictions

Manchester United welcome West Ham to Old Trafford for the first of two meetings in the coming week, with the hosts hoping to gain a psychological advantage ahead of their League Cup clash on Wednesday.

However, the hosts also had a midweek game at Old Trafford against Feyenoord, and although they dished out a comprehensive 4-0 thrashing of the Dutch side, so many games in such a short period is bound to take it’s toll on their legs.

This victory over Feyenoord made it four wins, two draws, and two defeats for Manchester United in their last eight outings. At home they are unbeaten in eight outings and have won five of them, but the poor away form and numerous dropped points mean they sit just 6th in the Premier League table.

Spanish play-maker Juan Mata got on the scoresheet again on Thursday to make it two goals from his last two games. He has now netted five in all competitions and has scored four of them at Old Trafford. You could do a lot worse than backing him to score anytime at 11/4 for our correct goalscorer predictions.

West Ham endured a dreadful start to the season before mounting a resurgence and winning three matches on the trot in October. However, their form has dipped to well below par again, with their late collapse at White Hart Lane last weekend making it two defeats and one draw from their last three matches.

This pushes them back down to 17th in the Premier League, and with them being eliminated from the Europa League in the Playoffs, last season’s excellent season seems a distant memory now.

Away from home their form record reads even worse than at the rather disappointing Olympic Stadium they are inhabiting. They have lost five of their six away days in the Premier League, conceding a disappointing 14 goals in the process.

This awful defensive record has resulted in four of their six away days ending with more than three goals scored, whilst Manchester United have seen at least three goals in four of their last nine. This, plus West Ham’s poor away record this season, makes odds of 6/5 for a Manchester United Win and Over 2.5 Goals look a reasonable backing, so I’m going for that along with a 2-1 correct score predictions at 15/2.
