Maritimo vs Moreirense Predictions

Maritimo sit one place and one point above the relegation zone heading into this weekends Primeira Liga action, while their guests Moreirense are challenging for the European places and currently occupy fifth spot. Moreirense haven’t won any of their last four away games against Maritimo, but the visitors head into Saturday’s match as the clear form favourites having gone six league games unbeaten.

A solitary strike in the sixty-fourth minute from Welthon proved enough to earn Vitoria Guimaraes all three points at home to Maritimo last time out, though the visitors could perhaps have pinched a draw. Moreirense were the better of the two sides at home to Vitoria Setubal, but the visitors took the lead early on through Cádiz, but an own goal from Sílvio ensured the pair went in level at the break. Moreirense pushed forward in search of a winning goal in the second half, but once Algerian defender Halliche was sent-off the hosts settled for a draw.

We’re expecting another close game between these two sides this weekend judging by their recent form and performance heading into the match, as well as their head to head record over the last few seasons, but believe Moreirense are best placed to win the game. Moreirense are unbeaten in their last six matches, picking up four wins and two draws, while Maritimo have lost four of their last six matches, earning one draw and one win. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in the last five meetings between the pair, and under three goals have also been scored in four of Moreirense’s and each of Maritimo’s last six league games. Goals have been hard to come by in games involving these two sides of late, and when they have met over the last couple of seasons, but we think Moreirense have the confidence to claim all three points this weekend.

Rodrigo Pinho top scores in the league this season for Maritimo with just three goals to his name, while Tavares and Chiquinho have chipped in with five goals each for Moreirense. We’re confident that Moreirense will win this weekend, and have backed a narrow scoreline of 1-0. Both teams have been involved in a large number of matches that have produced under 2.5 goals of late, and their last five encounters against one another have also produced fewer than three goals. Moreirense do have form in their favour and we think this will make the all important difference between the two sides on Saturday.
