Middlesbrough vs Notts County Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Although the league campaign is still in it’s early stages, sides already have the opportunity for a perfect distraction as they plot a run in the cup and a potential trip to Wembley. This Tuesday evening sees the first clashes in this years League Cup and the game we feature in this preview is the clash between Championship side Middlesbrough and League Two Notts County.

The hosts will be delighted with the way they have started the campaign as they have secured two wins and a draw from their opening three matches in England’s second tier. It is all a far cry from what many expected, as Boro had a fairly disastrous summer transfer window. Out went key players such as Ben Gibson and Adama Traore with little coming in to replace them, but if there is one thing boss Tony Pulis can do it is to make his sides a tough prospect for any opponent.

If Middlesbrough’s transfer window was poor, then Notts County’s was excellent. Boss Kevin Nolan made several key moves up front and, on paper at least, he catapulted his side into the title picture. Despite his success in the transfer market, things have not exactly gone to plan in the league and County have only managed one draw and a defeat in their opening two contests.

Given that the hosts have started the season in excellent form and the visitors the opposite, it is hard to imagine anything other than a home win. However, Boro are pretty short priced given that they may choose to rotate their squad, so backing them to score over 1.5 team goals looks like a much better option to take instead of the outright win.

If you do want to back the win-draw-win market, then there looks to be little value in the outright win. The hosts have a stronger squad and are in much better form at the moment, so backing them to win on a -1 handicap looks like an excellent way to increase the potential return.
