Middlesbrough vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

  • Middlesbrough have lost four and won just one of their last six Championship games.
  • Three wins in seven has boosted Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes of survival.
  • Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten on their last three visits to the Riverside Stadium.

Owls looking to prolong survival bid

Sheffield Wednesday are fast running out of time in their pursuit of survival, although three wins in seven, including their midweek victory over Blackburn, has moved them to within four points of safety.

If it were not for a six-point deduction they received earlier in the season then Wednesday would already be out of the bottom-three, although a poor away record has also contributed to their demise.

Indeed, no team has collected fewer away points in the Championship this season than the Owls (14), although last month’s victory at playoff chasing Barnsley underlined what Darren Moore’s side are capable of.

Moore is currently not in the dugout due to illness, which has added to Wednesday’s woes, but four points from their last two games shows the fighting spirit is still there.

Saturday’s hosts Middlesbrough could provide the ideal opponents for Sheff Wed, as Boro sit safely in mid-table and a run of four defeats and just one win from their last six games suggests they may already be on the beach.

However, Boro did win at Rotherham during the week and with former Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock at the helm, we are predicting a fiercely contested match on Saturday.

That could prove Wednesday’s undoing, although we are predicting the Owls double chance, as they are unbeaten on their last three visits to the Riverside Stadium, including last season’s 4-1 victory.
