Millwall vs Northampton Predictions

Millwall’s play-offs hopes took a slight hit when they drew away to Gillingham last time out. Neil Harris’ men had won two on the bounce and were very much fancied to get the better of a poor Gillingham side but that wasn’t to be. However, this match against a Northampton side who’ve secured a place in mid-table and thus have little left to fight for, presents the South London side with another big opportunity to secure three points.

Millwall have been very strong at home this season, whereas Northampton have been anything but on their travels. Motivation could be key here and, frankly, Millwall should have lots more of it. Backing a home win is the way to go.

At the Den Millwall really do boast a pleasing record having won 12, drawn six and lost just three. Defensively they’ve been sound – have kept more clean sheets at home than all but two of the other 23 League One teams – and have offered more than enough at the other end of the field. The Lions’ total of just 14 goals conceded is the join-best defensive record in the division and it is this defensive solidity that should hold them in good stead here.

Northampton haven’t been bad this season, hence their impending mid-table finish, but they’ve struggled a bit for form on the road, that’s for sure. The Cobblers have carried out most of their best work on home soil, especially from a defensive point of view. Away from home Northampton have won just five times this season and have won just one of their last nine. Such form doesn’t exactly set them up well ahead of a match against a tough opponent. Additionally, leaking goals has been the norm for the visitors having let in no less than 38 on their travels, keeping just three clean sheets in the process.

Given their current form it looks as though Northampton are already looking ahead to their summer holidays, while Millwall are still very much up for the fight. On their own patch, where they’ve thrived, the Lions are fancied to come out on top and continue staking a claim for the play-offs.
