Lions look short in defence for must-win clash

Millwall face a must-win clash at home to already-relegated Peterborough this weekend that appears to have all the right ingredients for a potential upset. Gary Rowett’s team have been affected by injuries at the sharp end of the campaign with central defence arguably the manager’s biggest concern going into the last week of the season.

Arsenal loanee Daniel Ballard has been ruled out, joining Scott Malone on the sidelines – so with Murray Wallace operating recently at wing-back, Ryan Leonard and George Evans are Rowett’s only options should he wish to deploy a back three again.

Jed Wallace has been absent from training ahead of the Lions’ penultimate game of the season and his absence is likely to be the most keenly felt by the hosts, who will be backed by a sellout crowd. But that kind of backing brings even-more pressure to an already-fraught situation where Millwall know that, whatever they do to catch Sheffield United in sixth, the Blades can match to stay clear going into the final round of games.

Posh play well on the road and are the value pick

Peterborough will have nothing but pride and, in some cases, a new contract to play for. Manager Grant McCann has stated 75-80% of the squad will be staying for a crack at League One next term and confirmed that he will be treating the final two games of the season like business as usual, so don’t expect any experiments.

Posh have performed better away from home than at Weston Homes Stadium lately and were victorious over the Lions back in November, so supporting the visitors here may not be as fanciful as it might seem. Although both teams to score also looks probable given both sides’ recent results, we are sticking with Posh in the match result market as the value is there.

A 2-1 scoreline in favour of McCann’s men appeals in correct score betting as Posh have only once scored more than two away league goals this term while they haven’t shipped more than one in each of their last four road games.
