MK Dons vs Bury Predictions

After being seen as one of the pre-season favourites for promotion, MK Dons responded by living up to that potential with an opening day win against Oldham away from home.

The team performed well in manager Paul Tisdale’s first game in charge, with the raft of new signings fitting in well with the team and the playing style. In particular, Ryan Harley, a midfielder signed from Tisdale’s old club Exeter City, scored the team’s second in a fantastic first half performance that should give the team a real boost of confidence that they can do well in this league. In addition, the way the team dug in for the entire second half against a spirited Oldham side will only add to the belief this team can conquer the league.

Moreover, the team seemed to have made a couple of decent signings that weren’t ready in time for the game. Goalkeeper Stuart Moore has been acquired as a free agent following his release from Swindon, whilst defenders Baily Cargill and Mathieu Baudry  have come in from their departures from Bournemouth and Doncaster Rovers respectively. All players are of good pedigree and should supplement a team that is full of talent.

Bury also grabbed a win on the opening day of the season, in much more dramatic conditions. After their opponents Yeovil had had two men sent off, in which the tackle which caused the sending off sparked a 20-man brawl, Bury managed to snatch a win in the 89th minute against the nine men of Yeovil.

This will represent a huge relief to Bury, getting their season back in League Two off to a winning start. However, Ryan Lowe will be slightly worried how his side struggled to break down a side which had nine-men and were already considered strugglers in the league with 11 on the pitch.

There were some positives to the game, however. New-signing Gold Omotayo got a goal on his first start for the club coming off the bench, and he will be pushing for a start against MK Dons. In addition, whilst teenage starlet Callum Styles has been sold to Barnsley, he has immediately come back to the club for a season-long loan spell, which means he can make a significant contribution to the team this year.

If Bury can construct a more distinct style of play around players like Styles, and do it quickly, then Bury have a great chance to challenge for the play-off spots.

However, the game against MK Dons will likely to prove too much for them. They were not convincing against Bury, especially attacking-wise given the circumstances, whilst the Dons looked very impressive against Oldham. Thus, a MK Dons “Win to Nil” looks appropriate going off these two teams’ form, whilst backing MK Dons to win 3-0 could be smart as well, they look a class above Bury at the moment and this should show through on Saturday.
