MK Dons vs Colchester Predictions

We may not have even reached the halfway point of the season yet, but already the race for the League Two title has had plenty of twists and turns, and in a league as competitive as England’s fourth tier, there is sure to be plenty more to come. This weekend MK Dons, one of the sides involved in the title race, bid to take a step closer to their goal with three points when they welcome a Colchester United side who have promotion aspirations of their own.

Second-placed MK Dons will be determined to pile pressure on League 2 leaders Lincoln City by beating Colchester United. Paul Tisdale’s side recovered from their 3-2 defeat at Stevenage by beating both Morecambe and Carlisle United 2-0 but they were left frustrated last weekend as the weather put a hold on their momentum. They go into this clash having lost only one of their previous 13 league fixtures. They have also formidably won nine of the last 11, seeing them ascend the table after going winless in September and they now sit second in the division.

A lot has been made in the media of how destructive the attacking trio of Chuks Aneke, Kieran Agard and Rhys Healey can be when they get going. Although Aneke is expected to miss the starting line up this weekend, his strike partners will still fancy their chances of another positive afternoon’s work and with Agard scoring nine goals this season, including six goals in his last seven outings, he looks like a good bet to find the back of the net this weekend.

A 4-0 defeat at Carlisle United ended Colchester United’s hopes of being top of League Two by Christmas and they need to bounce back. The U’s have been quietly going about their business and although their recent results do not represent anything too extraordinary, the fact that their two results prior to last weekend’s defeat was won by a goal to nil shows that they have the steel required to be in the running right through to the end of the season.

Much of MK Dons success this term has been built on the back of a solid defensive unit and the 13 goals they have conceded this term represents the best defensive record in the division. Like their hosts, Colchester also have an excellent record at the back and usually concentrate on shutting their opposition out in order to get the points. With this in mind, the chances of at least one of these sides failing to find the back of the net appears to be high so backing ‘Both Teams to Score – No’ looks to be the way to go.
