MK Dons vs Grimsby Town Predictions

MK Dons have made a really solid start to life in League Two and under the management of Paul Tisdale.

The club are unbeaten after their first four matches, conceding just once. After beating Oldham and Bury in their first two matches, the club impressively dispatched League One side Charlton 3-0 in the Carabao Cup. Although it was against a weakened side, the fact MK Dons looked so dominant against a higher division should give them great confidence.

However, a slight concern for Tisdale must be the attacking prowess his team has in the league. They have scored three times in three games and although they are unbeaten, they were held to a goalless draw away at Crewe at the weekend. Whilst not the worst result, the team missed several guilt-edged chances and they will need to be more clinical to continue what has been a great start to the league.

In addition, MK Dons also have a hefty injury and suspension list, with a number of first-team players suffering long-term injuries that will disrupt how the team gel and progress. The most recent addition to the list was attacker Mathieu Baudry, who was sent off in the last minute against Crewe. Despite this, it is clear that MK Dons have the talent to not be too affected by this.

After a terrible start to the season, Grimsby have picked up some form and look a solid League Two side.

On opening day the team were battered 4-1 at home by Forest Green Rovers, which would have been a huge embarrassment to the club and cause worries about how the team would go. However, in the subsequent two league games they have picked up two impressive results, to give optimism back to the club.

They beat newly-promoted side Macclesfield away from home, even after they went a man down for half an hour, showing the strong character of the side. In their most recent match, they held promotion favourites Lincoln City to a draw at home. They were an even match for a team full of quality and this will give added encouragement that the team can do well this season, on top of showing their organisational capabilities.

Whilst they lost in the Carabao Cup to Rochdale in midweek, they were expected to lose this match against a higher division outfit, and their focus will squarely be on the league performance. On the basis of the last two results, a top-half finish is very achievable.

Indeed, we think that they will make things very difficult for MK Dons at home, and keep things tight and compact to stop their attack. Whilst we think MK Dons will edge it, it will not be by much, given their problems in front of goal and Grimsby’s upturn in form.

Thus, a “MK Dons to Win and Under 2.5 Goals” with a 1-0 correct score-line could be a winner for what could be a close match.
