      Monaco vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions

Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund are looking to wrap up their Champions League campaign with a win on Tuesday. They have already wrapped up a last 16 place, while hosts Monaco can’t get off the bottom of Group A. On the face of it, there’s not too much on the line for either side here. However, Dortmund’s slip in their last game cost them top spot. There’s still an outside chance of them moving top on the final day, so they need to make sure there’s no repeat of their slip against Brugge.

Monaco still sit in 19th place in Ligue 1, as Thierry Henry tries to guide the club to safety. While they were able to win at Amiens last week, they had their weekend game postponed. They have continued to struggle with their huge injury list, and with nothing riding on this game, expect them to rotate were possible. After all, their limited options mean they can’t afford to lose anyone in this clash, days ahead of a tough visit to Lyon.

Dortmund have opened up a nine-point lead over Bayern Munich, having won five of their last six outings. The weekend brought a 2-1 win away to rivals Schalke, and the visitors should carry on that form against a team who have lost five of their last seven matches. These two met back in October, with Dortmund running out 3-0 winners, and they are favourites to claim another three points here.

Monaco sitting bottom isn’t just down to this season’s failings. They’ve been in woeful form in Europe for a couple of years. Monaco have lost six successive European home matches, with these six matches seeing the Ligue 1 club score only three goals, while conceding 17. Before this run, they’d never previously lost more than two European home games in succession. To make matters worse, they’ve got a poor record in the final match of the campaign. Monaco have won just two of their eight previous MD6 games in the Champions League (D3 L3), their lowest win rate on a specific match-day in the group stages (25%).

This clash is set to show how far Monaco have fallen, given that their big high in Europe of late came against Tuesday’s opponents. Since beating Borussia Dortmund to reach the semi-finals in 2016-17, Monaco have failed to win their last 13 games in the Champions League (D3 L10), conceding 32 goals in this run and scoring just nine. With that form taken into consideration, we’re going with the Bundesliga leaders to wrap up with a win. They’re excellent value for success, given the form of both sides.
