Goals on the cards as Strasbourg head to the Stade Louis II

Monaco claimed a 4-2 victory at Clermont in Adi Hutter’s first game in charge last weekend but face a sterner test when Strasbourg visit this weekend.

New Strasbourg boss Patrick Viera also made a winning start as they made a bit of a statement with a 2-1 home win over Lyon.

The best option for this fixture could be to look at the goals markets – as we may be in line for a high-scoring contest in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

Four or more goals has potential

Monaco won both meetings between these sides last season and both teams scored in each game.

There were 10 goals scored in total across those two fixtures, while Monaco’s league games averaged a hefty 3.4 goals-per-game and Strasbourg’s a solid 2.9.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals both look good options here but the value play looks to be over 3.5 goals. There were four goals scored in three of Monaco’s final five home fixtures last season and Strasbourg have scored in nine consecutive competitive games, so these sides may well be able to combine for at least four.

Spoils could be shared

A 2-2 draw is the correct score prediction as Monaco have won just two of their last eight at the Stade Louis II and Strasbourg impressed against Lyon, albeit with home advantage.

Three of Monaco’s last five stalemates have been 2-2 draws and both teams have scored in all of Strasbourg’s Ligue 1 draws in 2023.

Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder struck twice in the win over Clermont after hitting 19 goals in 31 Ligue 1 outings last season. As such, he looks the best contender for an anytime effort on Sunday.
