Montenegro vs Poland Predictions

Montenegro have managed to put together a few decent results so far this campaign, starting with a goalless draw at Romania and with a 5-0 thrashing of Kazakhstan, followed by a 1-0 win at Denmark. Their 3-2 defeat in Armenia is a big worry though, and now they come head to head with the leaders of their World Cup qualifying group.

Montenegro themselves sit just below Poland in 2nd place, but there is already three points between them and the hosts are only a point clear of Denmark and two ahead of Romania. Depending on the result on Sunday, they could finish the weekend anywhere between top of the group and 4th.

Poland may be the overwhelming favourites in this group, but it hasn’t all been plain sailing for them. They could only manage a 2-2 draw in Kazakhstan in their opener, and whilst they have since beaten Denmark, Armenia, and Romania, the first two of these victories were only edged.

Their last match was a 1-1 draw at home to Slovenia in a friendly in November, with that extending their unbeaten streak to 11 matches. Only five of these have ended in victory, and the most important ended in penalty shootout defeat to eventual winners Portugal in the Euro 2016 quarter finals.

Away from home Poland’s troubles start to arise. They have only won five of their last 17 trips away, drawing six and losing the other six. In fairness they have improved over the past couple of years, but they have still only won one of their five trips away in the past two years. Montenegro have only lost two of their last nine at home as well, winning four and drawing the remaining three.

Poland have managed to score in each of their last seven away games though, but their defence have only managed three clean sheets. Meanwhile the hosts have scored in seven of their last ten at home, but I can’t see them keeping out Robert Lewandowski who has scored seven goals in his four qualification matches already. Backing him to score anytime at 4/5 looks like a good choice.

The best bet looks to be Both Teams to Score at 1/1 though, so that’s what I’m going for along with a 2-2 correct score predictions at huge odds of 16/1.
