Montevideo Wanderers vs Corinthians Predictions

Friday’’s Copa Sudamericana round of 16, second leg action sees Uruguayans Montevideo Wanderers doing battle with Brazilians Corinthians at the Estadio Centenario. The visitors bring a 2-0 lead from last week’s first leg into the game and are expected to advance without any issues.

It was always going to be a huge ask for Montevideo Wanderers to win this tie and the quality difference between themselves and Corinthians was there for all to see in Sao Paulo last week. The Uruguayans struggled to leave their own half during said game and were dispatched of easily, with the Brazilians’ dominance more than reflected in the full time scoreline.

In terrible form, you can all but rule out Wanderers staging a comeback and the hosts will just be aiming to put in a respectable performance on Friday. Indeed, having lost their last 5 games whilst conceding an average of 2.4 goals a game, confidence is very low in home ranks and they don’t come into this game in good spirits.

Meanwhile, Corinthians met all expectations in the first leg and didn’t have to leave first gear to secure victory. One of the biggest names in this year’s Sudamericana, Timao are amongst the favourites to win it and have thus far been impressive, seeing off Argentine champions Racing Club and Venezuelans Deportivo Lara to reach this point.

Despite a big derby clash with Palmeiras coming up at the weekend, for now Corinthians’ focus is fully on the Sudamericana and the side arrive motivated to book their place in the quarter finals. Having won 3 of their last 4 games, Fabio Carille’s men are in good form and look well placed to put in another strong performance against their inferior opponents.

Ultimately, this is a tie that appears all but over and you can’t imagine Wanderers even threatening to come back. They are in terrible form and man for man, simply do not have the quality to trade blows with an outfit as strong as Corinthians.

All things considered, backing an away win looks the best way to play as far as the betting goes and is something we are happy to do with maximum confidence. Corinthians have won their last 3 Copa Sudamericana outings without even so much as conceding a goal and we think they’ll be able to maintain that streak, with a 1-0 margin of away victory appearing on the cards.
