Morecambe vs Yeovil Predictions

Morecambe prevented a third straight defeat by equalising late on to take a share of the spoils at Newport last weekend, though they’re not out of the woods just yet. Saturday’s hosts are just two points above the drop-zone, so they’ll be hoping to resume winning ways when they welcome Yeovil to Globe Arena on Saturday.

They did fight back well last weekend to draw on their travels, though on the balance of play, it’s probably fair to say that Morecambe were a tad fortunate to leave Wales with a point. What’s more, recent home performances haven’t exactly created the best impression either. Realistically, when they beat fellow strugglers Macclesfield at this venue back in late September, the Shrimps should’ve kicked on and gathered momentum, but they’ve failed to do that and have since lost three on the spin in front of their own fans.

In each of their last three home games, Morecambe have been blighted by a lack of both creativity and end-product. They did score three goals in a freak seven-goal thriller against Tranmere, though they weren’t exactly good value for that trio, while they’ve since offered very little, failing to score against both Colchester and Mansfield. During that time, the hosts have been averaging a measly 0.9 expected goals for, which doesn’t exactly suffice when they’re conceding an average of 1.34.

Yeovil have also given a fair bit away on their travels, but unlike Morecambe at home, they’ve managed to counter such problems by being useful in the final third. Having lost away at Bury in their first away match of the season, the visitors have since scored at least once in six straight travelling matches, notching 14 goals. Their average of 1.55 expected goals for is also pleasing, even if they are conceding an average of 1.59 at the other end.

From a betting point of view, it’s not difficult to make a case for the visitors. Their recent efforts on the road have been more impressive than Morecambe’s recent efforts at home, especially from a forward point of view. Unless the hosts improve considerably in the final third, then they’re likely to struggle. Essentially, a repeat of their performance against either Colchester or Mansfield won’t be good enough.

With more to offer in the final third, Yeovil are the side to be with at the prices. Backing the visitors to come out on top thanks to their extra quality in attack is the way to make this fixture pay.
