Morocco vs Slovakia Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Morocco have a tough World Cup campaign ahead, with meetings with Spain and Portugal in Group B this summer. They have a tall order to get out of that pool, which also includes Iran. As they prepare for a first World Cup in 20 years, they’re warming up with a clash against Slovakia on Monday night. The side who finished behind England and ahead of Scotland in the qualifiers didn’t make it to Russia, but can they pull off a result this week ahead of their UEFA Nations League campaign in the autumn?

The African side just picked up a 0-0 draw with Ukraine, but will they fare any better this week? That result was yet another impressive defensive display by the side who are led by Juventus man Medhi Benatia. The central defender and Morocco captain played a key role as they kept a clean sheet in all six of their group games on the road to Russia. They topped the pile with five wins from six, hitting 11 goals with none against. As qualifying records go, it’s pretty impressive. That could see them surprise a few at the World Cup this summer.

Recent friendlies have also gone well for the African side, as they saw off Serbia and Uzbekistan ahead of that draw with Ukraine. They turn their focus to a Slovakia side who have lost three straight away trips, including a loss at Ukraine. They’ve won just one of their last five friendlies, and now they’re going up against a really solid outfit, so this is likely to be a tough game for Slovakia.

In 13 friendlies, Morocco have lost just one. That was a clash against the improving Netherlands back in 2017, but they’ve followed that by winning in South Korea and Serbia after that loss. Their last away friendly loss came back in 2014, and they head in to this week’s clash with a full strength side. Morocco aren’t just a solid side,  they’re also tactically flexible. They moved to a 3-4-1-2 system in their clash with Ukraine, which was also played at this ground in Switzerland. They dominated that clash, and we expect this game to go the same way.

Morocco have a strong attacking presence built on their solid defence, with only Mo Salah outscoring Khalid Boutaib in their qualifying zone. This Slovakia side have little to play for, they’re missing a few international stalwarts and they’re going up against an in form side.
