Motherwell vs Dundee Predictions

Motherwell made it three defeats on the bounce last weekend as Celtic beat them 2-0, but that can be classed as a good result for them considering they were battered 7-2 at Aberdeen on the Wednesday before this clash. That followed on from a 3-0 defeat at home to Hearts as well, so only conceding two against Celtic is quite good by their standards.

This losing streak makes it one win, one draw, and five defeats in their last six games in all competitions, although their defeats have come against Rangers (twice), Hearts, Aberdeen, and Celtic.

Still, Motherwell’s long term form isn’t the most promising. They have won just two of their last 12 outings in all competitions, pushing them down to 10th in the Premiership table, with just a five point cushion over bottom of the table Inverness CT.

Dundee managed to end their own four match winless streak last weekend with a shock 2-1 victory over Rangers at home. This makes it four wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last eight outings in all competitions, and they are unbeaten in three games now after drawing against Inverness CT and Kilmarnock.

This has lifted them into the top half of the Scottish Premiership with a 27 point tally from their 25 games so far. They are still only eight points clear of the bottom of the table though, so things could change quickly in this section of the Premiership.

Away from home things are a little more difficult for Dundee though, with them losing five and drawing one of their last six Premiership games. Motherwell have lost four of their last five at home as well, but all of those defeats came against the top four in the table.

Whatever action happens in this game is likely to come in the second half. Motherwell have seen 25 of the 39 goals scored at Fir Park come in the second half this season, whilst 17 of the 29 goals that Dundee have seen on the road have come after the break too. Six of Motherwell’s 12 home games this season have been goalless at the break, whilst five of Dundee’s trips away have also lacked a first half goal.

This makes odds of 21/20 for Highest Scoring Half – 2nd look very good value, and I’m backing that along with a 1-1 correct score predictions at 11/2.
