Motherwell vs Dundee Predictions

Bottom of the league Dundee will travel to Lanarkshire as they are hosted by Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday. Can the Dee get back to their winning ways?

After failing to make it into the top half of the Scottish Premiership table prior to the split, Motherwell had to live with the fact they were in the bottom half of the table. The Steelemen have nothing to play for now, except maybe pride in finishing atop the bottom half. They face stiff competition in St Johnstone and even Livingston, with the Saints 3 points ahead of Stephen Robinson’s side and Livi just a couple behind them.

The Lanarkshire club’s recent form could have been better, as they are winless in their last 3 outings, losing to Aberdeen and then Rangers as well as drawing 1-1 with rivals Hamilton in their derby just last week in the first post-split fixture. Their last win came against St Johnstone at the end of March, in a game that the Steelmen won 3-0 thanks to goals from Frear, Turnbull and Tait.

Dundee’s time as a Premiership club is rapidly drawing to an end unless Jim McIntyre’s side can somehow change the course of their ever-sinking ship.

The Dee are in terrible form, which accurately reflects their season too. They had a shaky start to the year, but not terrible in the slightest. Their first 5 games of 2019 saw them pick up an impressive 8 points, losing just once to Motherwell and also facing an early exit from the Scottish FA Cup after being knocked out by Queen of the South in their replay.

Since beating Livingston 2-1 in mid-February, Dundee have lost every single game they’ve played, racking up 8 defeats in a row, as well as also receiving thrashing off Rangers and Hibs. Moreover, the team has only scored 3 times in this run of games, meaning that they have failed to score in 6 of those 8 games.

The fact that Motherwell have nothing important to play could turn out to be an advantage to a bottom-placed Dundee side that is about to fall too far behind St Mirren in the league. The Steelmen are, on paper, much stronger than the visitors, but they could still face an upset when the Dee play there. We’re going to back Dundee to narrowly win 1-0 here, as their desperate need for points comes into play.
