NAC Breda vs Excelsior Predictions

Breda have back to back wins in their sites ahead of Saturday’s Eredivisie clash with Excelsior, while the visitors are still searching for their first win of the new season after their opening day draw with Fortuna Sittard was followed by a 3-0 defeat at Feyenoord.

The scorelines in both Breda and Excelsior’s matches last weekend finished 3-0, but while Excelsior were busy getting well beaten by Feyenoord, Breda were picking up their first three points of the season at home to newly promoted De Graafschap.

De Graafschap gave Breda more of a match than the final score suggests, only just losing out in the possession and shots on target stats. It wasn’t until the forty-third minute that te Vrede handed Breda the lead, and, as so often is the case, that goal before the break had a big effect on the match.

Breda came out in the second half with much more confidence and self belief, scoring a second goal through Mets just five minutes after the restart. Nijholt added a third in the sixty-fifth minute to end an faint hopes of a De Graafschap comeback as Breda claimed their first victory, and first points, of the new season.

Excelsior are likely to give Breda a closer match this weekend, despite the fact they have managed to pick up just one point from their first two games of the season. Following the disappointment of a 1-1 draw at home to newly promoted Fortuna Sittard on the opening day, Excelsior were then beaten convincingly by Feyenoord away.

Veteran striker van Persie broke the deadlock in the seventeenth minute, a goal which separated the pair at the half time interval. Excelsior were still in the game at this point, but had offered very little going forward even though they had 45% of the overall possession.

A second goal from St. Juste in the seventy-seventh minute certainly ended any dispute in the direction this game would finish, but just to make sure van der Heijden added a third goal with just a minute of normal time left on the clock.

Excelsior are likely to lose away at the majority of their games against the top four or five sides, but should still have enough in them to avoid a relegation battle, yet perhaps not enough to challenge for a top half finish.

We’re confident that both teams will score and that over 2.5 goals will be produced when Breda play host to Excelsior on Saturday, and have backed a final score of 2-1 to the home side. Five of Breda’s last six matches have seen over 2.5 goals scored, while both teams have scored in three of the hosts last six matches. Four of Excelsior’s last six matches have seen over 2.5 goals scored and both teams have scored in three of visitors last four matches. Both teams have scored and over 2.5 goals have been produced in two of the last three meetings between Breda and Excelsior.
