New York City vs Los Angeles FC Predictions

The off-season marked the end of an era for New York City, with key figured David Villa and Tommy McNamara both calling time on their spell at the club. However, with Dome Torrent beginning his first full season in charge of NYC and the introduction of talented attacker Alexandru Mitrita, it’s not all doom and gloom at the Yankee Stadium.

That being said, the new trio of players are taking some time to integrate. Mitrita, Keaton Parks, and Juan Pablo Torres are yet to make any real impact at the club, and the lack of David Villa has resulted in two winless games for New York City. It could be worse though – They have picked up a point from both of these clashes with Orlando City and DC United.

On Sunday they’re coming up against a Los Angeles FC side who took the MLS by storm last season. In their debut season the big spending club finished 3rd in the Western Conference, netting a massive 68 goals in the process to make them the second highest scoring club in the entire MLS.

They have managed to keep hold of Carlos Vela, Diego Rossi, and Walker Zimmerman for their second campaign too, and it’s already paying dividends in the new term. Both Rossi and Vela have scored this season, helping LAFC to back to back wins against Sporting Kansas City and Portland Timbers.

Both of these victories did come on home soil though, but they will be hoping to continue in this vein of form in their first trip away of the season. Unfortunately for them, their away record isn’t quite so promising. They have won two, drawn two, and lost four of their last eight MLS away games, conceding 17 goals in the process.

With their attacking brand of football, this has naturally led to a good number of high scoring games. In fact, 11 of their last 12 away games in the MLS has seen at least three goals scored, and with New York City seeing three or more scored in half of their home games since the start of last season we think backing Over 2.5 Goals is a good bet here. We’re expecting the visitors to drop their first points of the season here though, so we’re going for a 2-2 correct score prediction.
