New York City vs New York Red Bulls Predictions

New York City claimed a 1-0 win at home to Columbus Crew in midweek and moved into third spot in the Eastern Conference table, while Sunday’s guests and local rivals New York RB won 2-1 away at DC United.

New York RB have had the better of New York City over the years but all of the stats heading into Sunday’s latest encounter between the pair suggest that New York City will win and that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced in the process.

Both teams have scored in four of the last seven meetings between these two clubs and over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the pairs’ last seven encounters as well, which is why we’re expecting plenty of goalmouth action at both ends of the pitch this weekend. New York City have won three of their last four home games against New York RB, so despite trailing in the head to head record by nine wins to four, Sunday’s hosts usually perform well in the derby when playing in their own backyard.

The form of both teams over the last month or so also strongly suggest New York City will win on Sunday, as the hosts have won four of their last six MLS games, while New York RB have lost three of their last six in the league. New York City have also won five of their last six home games and will be confident they can get the desired result this weekend.

The performances of both teams in recent weeks tell us that we are almost guaranteed goals in this game as both teams scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in each of New York City’s last eight matches, as well as in three of New York RB’s last six matches. New York RB were beaten 4-2 in their last away game and haven’t failed to score in any of their last six matches.

We’re confident that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced on Sunday and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-1 in favour of New York City. The hosts head into this weekends’ derby as the clear form favourites and with a good home record against New York RB over the last few seasons. The visitors have been hit and miss of late but goal-scoring has not been an issue and we fully expect both teams to score in what should be a very competitive ninety minutes.
