New York City vs Sporting Kansas City Predictions

New York City have played two fewer games than Sporting KC this season, and yet Saturday’s hosts have seven more points on the board than the visitors heading into their match-up on Saturday. Sporting KC had a very slow start to the season and, while there is still plenty of work left to do, their form has improved of late and they still look capable of pushing for a playoff spot.

New York City made the trip to Denver to face Colorado Rapids last weekend, where an early goal saw the hosts take the lead. Heber, one of New York City’s star players this season, equalised five minutes before the break and in the second half, a late effort from Miltrita sealed a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

Sporting KC were looking to make it three wins from three matches when they hosted Dallas on Sunday but a first-half effort from Badji saw the visitors leading 1-0 at the interval. The hosts pushed forward in the second half in search of an equaliser but their finishing was wayward and Dallas punished them shortly before the hour mark when Ferreira wrapped up a 2-0 win.

The head to head record between these two clubs and their performances heading into Saturday’s match suggests that we won’t see both teams score and that Sporting KC look good for a narrow away win. Only one of the five previous encounters between these two clubs have seen both teams score and three of the five meetings between the pair have ended 1-0. New York City have lost three of their last four matches, while Sporting KC have won two of their last three away games. Both teams have scored in just one of Sporting KC’s last six matches, which is why we’re backing a 1-0 win for Sporting KC this weekend.

Heber top scores for New York City this season with eight MLS goals, while Gutierrez, who also has eight league goals to his name, leads the way for Sporting KC. We’re confident that we won’t see both teams score on Saturday and have predicted a final scoreline of 1-0 to the visitors. Sporting KC are the underdogs but the visitors have been performing well away from home of late and games between these two clubs are always close, yet never end in stalemates.
