Newcastle vs Bristol City Predictions

This looks like an absolute home banker, with Bristol City still struggling badly for results and Newcastle continuing to set the pace at the top of the division.

The Robins had hoped they’d turned a bit of a corner with a few more encouraging results but a 2-0 defeat at home to Fulham on Wednesday would have been a huge body blow to morale. It’s a big ask for them to pick themselves up and go again less than 72 hours later in what is probably the toughest game they’ll play all year.

Sine the end of October, Bristol City have played 17 Championship games and only collected 8 points. That is relegation form in anyone’s language and it’s a bit of a surprise that Lee Johnson is still in a job. Their only win in the last 13 came at home to a very poor Rotherham side and they made a hard job of that. Bristol City could potentially fall into the relegation zone if they lose here and given they’ve lost 69% of their away league games this term, it’s hard to see them getting anything from the game.

The Magpies have benefited from a couple of days extra rest having played on Monday, so should be the fresher of the two sides. A fresh injury to top scorer Dwight Gayle is clearly a blow but they are close to full strength again otherwise and have plenty of potential weapons in this game. With 1.94 goals scored per game on average, they are the top scorers in the division and they’ve netted 2.19 at home so there is the distinct possibility that they could run away with this.

One of their main goal threats has been wideman Matt Ritchie. With 6 goals in his last 8 appearances for the club, he’s in good form in front of goal and backing Ritchie to score anytime at 7/4 looks to offer value as a result.

8 of Newcastle’s 11 home wins this season have been by a margin of 2 or more goals so when they are at or near their best, they normally have enough to pull away from most Championship side. Right now Bristol City are one of the worst teams in the division and backing Newcastle -1.00 Asian Handicap at 17/20 looks to offer value.
