Nimes vs Brest Predictions

  • Nimes lost just six of their 14 home games last season.
  • Nimes beat Brest 3-0 when the teams last met in Ligue 1.
  • Brest failed to score in six of their final nine away matches last term.
  • Nimes finished the previous season with three clean sheets in six home assignments.
  • Nimes averaged just 1.2 goals per home game last season.

Nimes targeting improvement

Nimes’s flirted dangerously with the drop last season, though Les Crocodiles will be hope to produce some snappier performances in 2019/20 with a new manager at the helm.

Jerome Arpinon stepped up from his role as an assistant to replace outgoing head coach Bernard Blaquart over the summer, though a recruitment drive that wrangled the services of defensive midfielder Andres Cubas, schemer Yassine Benrahou, defender Birger Meling and keeper Baptiste Reynet looks uninspiring on paper.

Nimes, who finished one place clear of the drop zone in 2019/20, had their form at the Stade des Costières to thank for their relegation reprieve, and Arpinon will look to carry the form that saw them beaten just six times in 14 Ligue 1 assignments on their own patch into the new campaign.

Their weekend opponents Brest, were soundly beaten 3-0 in their trip to Nimes last term, and another home victory looks the likeliest outcome in Sunday’s rematch.

Brest’s away day malaise

Brest finished in a respectable 14th position last term, though a miserable run of results on the road that saw them win just twice in 14 matches on their travels scuppered their hopes of a berth in the top half.

In centre-half Christophe Herelle and wingers Franck Hononrat and Heriberto Tavaraes, manager Olivier Dall’Oglio made some interesting personnel changes to his Les Pirates squad over the break, though we don’t expect any of their new faces to make an immediate impact on Sunday.

Home win anticipated

Nimes’ impressive 3-0 win over Brest when the sides last faced off in August last year, extended Les Crocodiles’ run of victories over their opponents to four games, and we expect them to extend that streak on Sunday.

Arpinon will be desperate to start his tenure with a victory at the Stade des Costières, and with the new manager effect a factor, Nimes should be able to take advantage of Brest’s penchant for coming unstuck on their travels.

Les Pirates were turned over in six of their last nine away games of the 2019/20 campaign, drawing twice and winning only one of those final fixtures on the road overall.

Brest failed to register in six of those nine away assignments, and on Sunday they face a Nimes rearguard that finished the previous season with three clean sheets in their final six home contests.

We think Brest could struggle to make an impact on the scoresheet again this weekend, however, with modest attacker Nimes hitting the net just 1.2 times per 90 minutes at home on average in 2019/20, a 1-0 correct score prediction looks a viable outcome.
