St Etienne could edge relegation six-pointer

A run of one defeat in seven league matches has reignited Nimes’ survival hopes, although their Achilles heel remains their poor record on home soil.

Only bottom of the table Dijon have accumulated fewer home points in Ligue 1 this season than Nimes’ total of 12, with Pascal Plancque’s side having won just three of their 15 matches at the Stade des Costieres.

A rare home victory on Sunday would move Nimes to within a point of St Etienne and drag Claude Puel’s side well and truly into the relegation battle.

ASSE would already be engulfed in that battle if it were not for a recent upturn in away form that has seen them win three of their last four on the road.

St Etienne have now collected more points on their travels than they have on their own patch this season and they will be confident of adding to that tally on Sunday given their recent record against Nimes.

Les Verts certainly appear to have a hoodoo over Nimes, as they are unbeaten in the last 10 league meetings between the two sides and we predict they will be able extend that run on Sunday.

However, our prediction is for a St Etienne double chance, as Nimes have proven over recent weeks that they can be hard to beat, even if home victories remain few and far between.
