      Northampton vs Yeovil Town Predictions

We’re into the closing stages of the League 2 season now, and Northampton find themselves in the disappointing position of having absolutely nothing left to play for. They will have been hoping for a swift return to League 1 following their relegation last term, but with only six points left to play for they find themselves 15th in the table of the fourth tier.

The nine point gap between The Cobblers and the last of the playoff spots might be an unbridgeable gulf now, but it’s only in the last month or so that Northampton have found themselves out of the running.

They lost 3-1 at Bury on Easter Monday to make it just one win from their last seven games. Prior to that they were on an impressive four match winning streak, and you feel that if that had just continued a bit longer this would be a very different end to the season at Sixfields Stadium.

It could be worse though. They could be in Yeovil Town’s position. After avoiding relegation by just two points last season, it seems that The Glovers haven’t learned their lessons very well. Now, with two games remaining, they find themselves second from bottom in the table and two points adrift of safety.

Quite often with relegation candidates you see some sort of late resurgence as they up their game to try and avoid the drop. Not so with Yeovil Town, who’s 1-1 draw at home to Colchester on Monday made it nine league games without a win. Seven of these have ended in defeat too, and they have managed a grand total of just three goals in this period.

Away from home things get even worse. Yeovil have drawn one and lost eight of their last nine League 2 away days, scoring a meagre two goals in the process. Northampton, meanwhile, have only lost two of their last 18 league games at Sixfield Stadium, so a win for the visitors is looking increasingly unlikely.

We’re not expecting a game for the neutrals on Saturday. Yeovil’s lack of attacking bite paired up with Northampton’s lack of incentive could lead to a very dull game indeed. The hosts have seen three or more goals in four of their last eight home games, while Yeovil have in just three of their last 11 on the road. We think backing Under 2.5 Goals looks the best option here, so we’re going for that along with a 1-0 win for the hosts.
