Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle Predictions

  • Six of Newcastle’s last eight Premier League games have ended with over 3.5 goals
  • Both teams have scored in seven of Nottingham Forest’s last eight Premier League games
  • Callum Wilson has seven goals in seven Premier League starts

Tricky Trees in danger

Nottingham Forest improved initially when Nuno Espirito Santo took over, but their form in general has been poor recently and they are in real danger of succumbing to the drop. The Tricky Trees have lost eight of their last 12 league games, with a 3-1 victory over Newcastle in the reverse fixture one of the only highlights of their recent run.

They did manage to pick up a point against Bournemouth last time out but they remain just two points clear of the relegation zone, thanks in part to Luton’s recent resurgence.

A potential points deduction is also hanging over the Tricky Trees so they need to rack up some victories sooner rather than later if they are to retain their position in the top flight.

They have been more solid at home than on the road however, avoiding defeat in six of their 11 matches at the City Ground this season. They host Newcastle looking to add to that tally and repeat their victory from Boxing Day.

Magpies’ away form their main issue

Despite losing to Nottingham Forest at home in December, it is Newcastle’s away form that has been a major concern for them this season. The Magpies have taken just eight points from a possible 33 on the road, losing seven of their 11 league away games.

Eddie Howe’s side have improved things in recent weeks however, beating Fulham 2-0 in the FA Cup before a 3-1 victory at Villa Park in the league. They showed fight to come back from 4-2 down to get a point against Luton on Saturday but realistically should not have been conceding four at home to a relegation candidate.

Their lack of a true holding midfielder has been exposed at times this season, with the Magpies missing Joelinton’s physicality in midfield and vulnerable on the counter.

Goals on the cards

One thing that looks likely in this clash is a high-scoring affair. Six of Newcastle’s last eight games have gone over 3.5 goals and their open nature seems unlikely to stop any time soon, with injury issues persisting for some of their key players.

Both teams have scored in seven of the Tricky Trees’ last eight league matches and they should be able to contribute to a match that is fancied to produce four or more goals.

With Newcastle’s struggles on the road, it’s hard to fancy them at a short price and correct score backers should side with a 2-2 draw.

Callum Wilson has returned to the Newcastle team just in time, with fellow striker Alexander Isak missing out with injury. Wilson has seven goals in seven starts this season and can add to that tally here.
