Notts County vs Oldham Predictions

Following a strong off season in the transfer market, Notts County were tipped by many, including us, to go all the way and win the League Two title come the end of the season. However, they have been far from the force we all expected and are already on to their second manager of the campaign. This Tuesday they have the opportunity to make their points tally look a little more healthy as they welcome an inconsistent Oldham Athletic to Meadow Lane.

County may have moved on to Harry Kewell as boss, but despite an upturn in fortunes early on, their form has recently reverted to what they showed at the start of the campaign. Following a 2-2 draw with Port Vale at the weekend, the Magpies have now managed just a single point from their last four outings in the league. A major part of their downfall this season is their inability to keep the opposition at bay and with 10 goals conceded in their previous four matches, it is no surprise to find them with the worst defensive records in the division.

Fortunately for County, they are always a threat up front and although they have a wealth of talent to choose from, Kane Hemmings has been the standout performer of late. The 27-year-old may have only scored five times this term, but with two in his last two, he looks like he is in the mood to go on and add to that tally when he faces Oldham on Tuesday evening.

Making the trip to Meadow Lane is an Oldham Atheletic side who have not exactly had the start to the season they would have envisaged. The Latics suffered relegation from League One at the end of last season and although they will have been hoping for an immediate return, they currently find themselves well off the pace in 17th place. Although plenty of goals have gone in at Oldham’s end, all is not lost as they have managed to find the back of the net five times in their previous three games.

Given that both of these sides have shown more ability putting the ball in the net than they have shown keeping it out, it seems likely that we could be in for a high scoring game on Tuesday evening. With this in mind, we think that backing both teams to find the back of the net represents the best opportunity for a decent return in this fixture.
