      Nurnberg vs Hertha Berlin Predictions

The league’s bottom side are aiming to kick off 2019 with a big result, but can they end their losing streak on Sunday? Time is running out for the hosts in their bid to stay in the top flight, while their opponents come here with much loftier ambitions. They are pushing for a Europa League place this term, and they sit just three points shy of a top six place. Will they add to their strong tally with three points in this trip on Sunday, or can the hosts give themselves a lifeline?

The hosts are winless in their last 11 games, and they are in a tough position in the top flight. However, they came into 2019 only three points short of 16th, so there’s still room for the bottom side to race out of the bottom two. Their problem is their rotten record, a run which shows no sign of ending anytime soon. They’re aiming to continue a decent record against Hertha of late, but with their recent form in mind, it’s going to be a tall order for the hosts to extend that and boost their chances of staying in the league.

Hertha are unlikely to have a better chance to end their winless streak here. They make this trip after losing 3-1 to Bayer Leverkusen just before the break, while they come here without a win in three in the Bundesliga overall. However, the capital side have kept themselves in the running for a European place, and a 4-1 friendly victory over Arminia Bielefeld has likely boosted morale going into the second half of the season. Hertha have managed to win the previous two meetings between these sides after their 1-0 success in the reverse fixture, but will they have more joy here?

The visitors have already won at struggling sides this term, following victories away to Hannover and Schalke. Those successes should see them come to Nurnberg with some confidence, especially given how the newly promoted side are faring in the top flight. Their record of 10 defeats in 17 matches has shown that they’re not quite cut out for this level, while their last seven matches in the league have brought six defeats.

Unsurprisingly, Hertha are favourites to win this clash. With Nurnberg failing to beat a side above 14th this season, that’s no great surprise. Meetings with the top eight sides have left the hosts with seven defeats, and we’re going with another loss for the hosts on Sunday. With no goals in four league games and the worst defensive record in the Bundesliga, we are backing against the hosts here.
