Oeste vs Avai Predictions

Wednesday’s Brazilian Serie B action sees Oeste doing battle with Avai. The fixture looks like one that could provide plenty of chances at both ends of the pitch.

Hosts Oeste arrive on cloud nine after picking up an unexpected, and impressive, triumph at early Serie B leaders Fortaleza at the weekend, claiming the points via a 87th minute goal to make it 2-1.

Roberto Cavalo’s troops were 5 matches without a win prior to the success but the result has now lifted them out of the relegation zone and somewhat relieved mounting pressure on the boss. Whilst their start to the season has been far from fantastic, Oeste have at least been proving difficult to beat, losing just 3 of their opening 12 matches and they’re a particularly tough nut to crack on their own patch, evidenced by the fact they take to the field 7 matches unbeaten at the Arena Barueri.

Meanwhile, Avai’s start to the campaign has been a far better one as they look to make an immediate return to Serie A, following relegation from the top-flight last season. Leão da Ilha currently lie second in the standings after taking an impressive 22 points from 12 matches.

However, that figure would read 24 points but for blowing a 2-0 half time lead over the weekend to eventually draw 3-3 with Guarani. Avai had controlled most of the game but conceded three times in a manic 15 minute second half spell, eventually needing a 73rd minute goal to even take home a share of the spoils.

Nonetheless, the result still meant the visitors are unbeaten in all but one of their last 11 matches and the side won’t be phased by a return to the road, having won 4 of their last 5 games on it.

Ultimately, this looks an interesting match betting wise and there are several markets that appeal. The first of which is certainly the both teams to score line, which is more than worth a play at generous odds. Oeste are typically a strong home side and indeed have found the net at least once in 13 of their last 14 home matches, whilst Avai are in strong away form and have scored an impressive average of 2.14 goals a game over their last 7 fixtures.

Thus, goals at both ends certainly look likely, as does getting behind the match ending in a draw. Avai have made the stronger start to the season but showed some deficiencies in their last outings and they’ll be hard pressed to see off an Oeste side already tricky to beat. Indeed the last 6 meetings between the two have ended all square and we fancy that streak to continue via a 1-1 draw.
