Oeste vs Guarani SP Predictions

Thursday’s Brazilian Serie B action features an interesting looking clash between Oeste and Guarani. Plenty of action is expected at both ends of the pitch as each side looks to close in on the top 4.

The fact we’re even mentioning Oeste and the promotion spots tells you what a good  couple of weeks the side have had, as they were in the drop zone just a couple of games ago.

Nonetheless, excellent wins at the current top two, Fortaleza and Avai, have raised confidence massively and has also seen pressure ease on boss Roberto Cavalo. Oeste had previously been drawing far too many games but their recent surge provides reason for encouragement and they’ll be confident of building on the streak in front of their own fans, taking to the field 8 matches unbeaten at the Arena Barueri.

Meanwhile, visiting Guarani arrive unbeaten in 5 matches but with the latter 4 of those coming from draws, the visitors aren’t flowing with confidence, particularly because they could only manage a 1-1 home draw against rock bottom Boa at the weekend.

Umberto Louzer’s men sit just inside the top half at the moment but if they can start turning some of their draws into wins, they’ll be able to make ground on the promotion spots. Tightening things up defensively would definitely allow that to happen, considering their attack is operating efficiently, scoring an average of 1.46 goals a game but being let down by a fairly leaky defence that has conceded an average of 1.23 goals a game.

Indeed, Guarani’s strong attacking output but weak defensive showings have seen both nets hit in 4 of their last 5 matches, as well as in 5 of their last 6 away games. The visitors play with a no fear approach no matter the opponent and little change is to be expected ahead of this trip to face Oeste.

As such, with Oeste also a fairly attacking team and taking into consideration both nets have been hit in 4 of their last 7 fixtures, backing both teams to score simply has to be the way to play at generous odds. Oeste have scored in all but one of their 14 home games so far in 2018 and they should be able to keep up that streak here, but they’re unlikely to do so with their own clean sheet intact against an aggresive Guarani outfit, with a 1-1 draw looking the most likely scoreline come full time.
