Oldham vs Bury Predictions

On the same weekend that old rivalries between Liverpool and Manchester are renewed in the Premier League, a little further down the football pyramid there is another clash between two old foes. Oldham Athletic are back in action at Boundary Park on Saturday afternoon as they take on local rivals Bury in League Two, and with both sides in pretty good shape at the moment, it promises to be an exciting afternoon of football.

Frankie Bunn’s Oldham Athletic are currently five games unbeaten in the league and they’ll be looking to bounce back from the defeat to Rochdale in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night. Following their demotion from League One at the end of last season, the Latics will be hopeful of being able to bounce back at the earliest opportunity, but following an indifferent start to the season, they know that it is key that they enjoy a successful festive period in order to close the gap on the play-off places.

Making the trip to Boundary Park is a Bury side who also come into the game on a five-game unbeaten run in the league. There is good news on and off the pitch for the visitors as a takeover of the club has been completed over the past week, a move which certainly will not have been hindered by the fact that Bury are currently the top scorers in League Two. It should come as little surprise to learn that Bury top the divisions scoring charts as they have scored an impressive 16 goals in their last five league matches.

With neither side looking short of confidence at the moment and both teams more than capable in front of goal, we should be in for an open and attacking game of football on Saturday afternoon. Add to this the local rivalry factor and we think that goals at both ends are a realistic prospect, and with this in mind, we think that backing both teams to score is the way to go.
