Oldham vs Bury Predictions

Considering the nature of their recent form, it was somewhat surprising that Oldham lost out last weekend; however, the bare results don’t exactly tell the full story. Having lost a man early-on, they did very well to stay in the game, creating a few good chances, and it took until injury time, coupled with a second Oldham red-card, for Walsall to secure the match with a second. Other than that forgivable defeat, the hosts have been in good form recently and can go well here.

Bury are another team who’ve lifted themselves recently, but their defeat at home to Gillingham last week was disappointing and showcased that there are still cracks in the visitors’ back-line.

In front of a home crowd Oldham are pretty solid, they give very little away and could quite easily use this to capitalise and resume winning ways. At odds of 6/4, backing Oldham to come out on top looks the best bet.

The defensive solidity of the hosts could be the key here. Bury are certainly not the tidiest team when it comes to defending, so if Oldham can remain patient and keep things nice and tight at the back then there’s no reason why they can’t get themselves in front at the other end and claim all three points. Having conceded just 15 goals on their own patch this season, keeping no less than ten clean sheets, Oldham have let in one of the lowest amount of goals at home in the entire division.

Playing away from home has presented Bury with plenty of problems so far this season, problems that are mainly of a defensive nature. In conceding a total of 34 goals on the road, Bury have kept just three clean sheets and have often been let down by their inability to keep teams out. They’re by no means the worse going forward, but could easily struggle to hit their stride against an Oldham side who’ve specialised in frustrating the opposition this season.

The home side might not be the most outgoing team in terms of goals scored, but they certainly know how to keep them out and that is expected to act as the catalyst for success here. With Bury’s defence looking as sieve-like as it does, John Sheridan’s Oldham are expected to come out on top.
