Oldham vs Sheffield United Predictions

Sheffield United continue to impress in League One and now lead the chasing pack by no less than six points. It’s pretty clear that they’re enjoying a dominance over the rest of the division right now; however, their defensive performances of late have left plenty to be desired and thus Chris Wilder’s men will have to be careful here. Oldham are quite tough to overcome on their own patch and are likely to enjoy playing on the counter thanks to the visitors’ forward-thinking style.

The bet that stands out is ‘Both Teams to Score’, Although Oldham haven’t exactly excelled going forward this season, as mentioned above, they’re likely to thrive on the counter, while Sheffield United have been anything but secure at the back of late.

From an attacking perspective, the visitors are just about the best League One has to offer. Having said this, because they play such an attacking game, they are often left open at the back – as Swindon, Charlton, Oxford and Rochdale have found out in recent weeks. In their last five matches, Sheffield United have scored no less than 14, but have also conceded eight, keeping no clean sheet in any of their last four. Given their attacking quality, you’d be very surprised if the visitors failed to find the net here but, at the same time, can you be confident that they’ll keep a clean sheet? Probably not.

The hosts, who have had their struggles in front of goal, will take plenty of confidence from the fact that Sheffield United have been leaking a lot of goals recently. The visitors keeping just three clean sheets all season also bodes well. As for their own exploits, John Sheridan’s men have started to add a few more goals to their game recently, scoring in each of their last two, finding the net twice against play-off hopefuls Oxford in their last home match.

Although the visitors are likely to come out on top, it’s unlikely that they’ll do so, having kept a clean sheet and so backing ‘Both Teams to Score’ is the bet to go for.
