Partick Thistle vs Dundee United Predictions

League leaders Dundee United will travel to Glasgow on Friday as they are hosted by Partick Thistle at Firhill Stadium. Can the Arabs hold the top spot going into the weekend?

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Partick Thistle got their Championship season underway with an away trip to Alloa Athletic. The Jags found themselves 1-0 down late in the second half as the home side opened the scoring thanks to a long-range, deflected shot by Steven Hetherington. Thistle came out much sharper in the latter 45 minutes, so much so that Joe Cardle brought the score level with half an hour to go, although the game wouldn’t see any further goals.

Despite picking up just a single point from their initial league game, it did contribute to their unbeaten run which has now been extended to an impressive 5 matches, and the club hasn’t known defeat since their  2-1 loss to Ayr United back in April.

Dundee United made a statement of intent following their opening league game. The Terrors ran out 4-1 winners against Inverness CT last week, largely due to the superb performance of Lawrence Shankland. The Glaswegian striker, who had been scoring goals for fun with Ayr United over the last couple of seasons, scored all of Dundee United’s goals and guided them to an ultimately easy win at Tannadice.

The Dundonian outfit went into their first game off the back of a couple of defeats, both in the League Cup to East Fife and a friendly against Shrewsbury Town. That League Cup fixture was a must-win for Robbie Neilson’s side, as a defeat denied them passage through to the last 16.

Partick Thistle will be eager to win their first home game of the season as they aim to compensate for their underwhelming draw last week. Gary Caldwell’s sides positive and undefeated pre-season should boost their morale and confidence for the months ahead. Dundee United managed to get their league campaign underway in spectacular fashion, and their early exit from the Scottish League Cup could be a blessing in disguise, as it means that the club has a game less to worry about in a season that will surely see them push for promotion, as they have already proved to be doing. We’re going to back the visitors to replicate their previous outcome with a win & both teams to score here, although we don’t believe the score will be quite as drastic, which is why we’re also backing a narrow 2-1 win for the Tannadice side.
