Perth Glory vs Sydney FC Predictions

Perth Glory kept the race for the Hyundai A-League Premiership just about alive last weekend when they lost 4-1 at Melbourne Victory, and this week they could keep it going a bit longer if they manage to get a win over Sydney FC.

Their opponents sit at the top of the A-League table with an 11 point lead over Melbourne Victory in 2nd, and with just 12 points left to play for, a win on Sunday would end the race for the top spot and allow focus to be shifted onto the upcoming playoffs.

Perth Glory’s defeat last weekend ended their five match unbeaten streak in the A-League. and they have now won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six outings. At home they have won four of their last five matches and lost none though, putting them in a comfortable looking 5th position in the table. They are four points adrift of 3rd placed Melbourne City, but they have a nine point cushion before dropping out of the playoff zone so can feel comfortable about their playoff hopes.

Sydney FC have been alternating between scintillating performances and grinding out results this season, and at the moment they seem to be in a grinding out results phase. They beat Central Coast Mariners 1-0 last weekend, to follow on from their 1-0 win against Melbourne Victory the weekend before.

They have now won six of their last eight games in the A-League, and that singular defeat against city rivals Western Sydney Wanderers in February remains their only loss of the league season.

Away from home their record is a formidable one as well, with them winning six of their last eight games. However, they do tend to concede a lot more on the road and have only kept one clean sheet in their last five away days.

Perth Glory have conceded in eight of their last nine at home though, although they haven’t failed to score at home all season as well. This has resulted in a lot of high scoring games, with eight of their last nine having at least three goals scored. Five of Sydney FC’s last seven on the road have been high scoring affairs too, so backing Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score at 8/11 looks a good bet. I’m going for a 2-2 correct score predictions at 10/1 as well.
