Peterborough vs Gillingham Predictions

  • Peterborough have now gone five games without scoring more than a single goal.
  • Gillingham are now unbeaten in six League 1 matches, three of which they’ve won.
  • Gillingham have now gone eight matches without conceding more than a single goal.
  • Only two teams have conceded less away goals than Gillingham in League 1 this season.
  • Both teams have scored in just 36% of Peterborough’s home games this season.

Posh out of form

Waning after initial promise is becoming a familiar sight for Posh fans, who’ve watched their side do much the same as they’re doing at present for several seasons. Peterborough have now lost each of their last three, while their winless in four. Not only have results gone the wrong way of late, but Darren Ferguson’s men have also slowed down dramatically in front of goal, scoring just once in their last 360 minutes of League 1 football. Such form just won’t do, especially if Saturday’s hosts have eyes on promotion.

Fortunately, all is not lost. Barring their recent defeat to Doncaster, Peterborough have done well at home of late, winning three of their last five, keeping three clean sheets in the process. However, again, a lack of goals has crept into their game, as they’ve notched just two in their last three at ABAX Stadium. Gillingham aren’t massive scorers, but they’ve been doing well defensively of late, so Posh need to sharpen up in attack.

Gills tough to beat

While Peterborough have been on the slide of late, Gillingham have quietly improved. Under Steve Evans, the Gills seem to have settled quite nicely after a relatively and up and down start. By going six games unbeaten, three of which they’ve won, Saturday’s visitors have climbed to a respectable 13th position, which on the face of it, doesn’t look overly impressive, but thanks to the tight nature of the division this term, they’re just three points shy of the top six.

In recent matches, Gillingham seem to have developed a thick skin; they’re not overly flamboyant offensively, but they’re repelling teams and are grinding out results. Even on the road, the Gills are becoming hard to beat, as they’ve lost just one of their last six travelling matches. Again, they’ve not scored a great deal during that time, notching only three goals, but they’ve done a good job of restricting teams, conceding only three, keeping three clean sheets. Such stats bode well ahead of a game against a Posh side that has been struggling in the final third of late.

Lack of goals appealing

In the betting, ‘Both Teams to Score – NO’ catches the eye. Peterborough have struggled to score goals of late, which lends itself to the above, but they’ve also kept regular clean sheets at home, shutting out their opponents in four of their last six, as well as six of their last nine, at ABAX Stadium. Similarly, Gillingham have only scored in three of their last six away games, scoring just three goals in total, while they’ve kept three clean sheets during that time too. Add in that both teams have scored in just 36% of Peterborough’s home games, as well as in 45% of Gillingham’s away matches, and the above bet begins appeal.
