Philadelphia Union vs LA Galaxy Predictions

East meets West in the MLS this weekend as Philadelphia Union take on LA Galaxy, for what will hopefully be an action packed, end to end, goal fest at the Talen Energy Stadium. Both teams have proved themselves to be hard to beat over recent weeks and head into Sunday’s game with back to back victories behind them. The visitors hold the star power in the form of Ibrahimović which gives them the edge going forward, but both sides have performed to a similar level defensively this season, conceding thirty-goals in nineteen MLS games.

When the two teams last met in April 2017 there wasn’t a single goal scored as the pair played out a goalless draw. Lightning never strikes twice in the same place which bodes well for this weekends latest encounter between the pair, and LA Galaxy will be keen to pick up all three points as they should have done in April. The then hosts dominated the overall possession with 58%, but both sides managed just a handful of shots on target as their decision making in the final third really let them down. The game lacked the normal bite it has had over the years, with just two yellow cards being handed out during the ninety-minutes, but we’re not expecting the same kind of game from either side this time around.

With four wins from their last six matches it’s Philadelphia Union who head into this weekends game as the form favourites. The hosts have lost their other two games in that six game period so aren’t at the top of their game, but will still prove a tough challenge for LA Galaxy in their own backyard. The visitors aren’t too far behind their hosts in the form guide having won three, drawn two, and lost just one of their last six, and have now gone four games without tasting defeat. LA Galaxy certainly appear to be on the up and we’re backing the visitors to remain undefeated this weekend with good reason, as the visitors are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Philadelphia Union.

With five MLS goals to his name this season Czech Republic’s Dočkal top scores for Philadelphia Union, and clearly Sunday’s hosts need to invest in their forward line if they really wish to compete at the top end of the table. That man Ibrahimović is naturally the leading goalscorer for LA Galaxy this season with eleven goals to his name so far, and the in form Swede has played a major part in his clubs gradual rise up the Western Conference.

We’re confident that LA Galaxy will take something from this game and have backed the visitors with a double chance bet. With Ibrahimović in your team you always stand a chance of picking up points and we’re expecting another classy performance from the veteran forward on Sunday. As for a final score, well, we’re going for a 3-2 win for Galaxy in what might well end up being the game of the weekend in the MLS.

Philadelphia’s Predicted Lineup: Blake, Gaddis, Rosenberry, Trusty, McKenzie, Medunjanin, Dočkal, Bedoya, Accam, Picault, Burke.

LA Galaxy’s Predicted Lineup: Bingham, Feltscher, Ciani, Skjelvik, Romney, Alessandrini, Pontius, J. dos Santos, Kitchen, Kamara, G. dos Santos
