Plymouth Argyle vs Stevenage Predictions

Plymouth Argyle managed to claw their way back into England’s third tier a few seasons ago but, although they still have plenty of time to turn their season around, the early signs suggest they are in for a long hard fight if they are to retain their spot at that level. This weekend, however, they enjoy a welcome break from league action as the FA Cup comes to town and they welcome Stevenage to Home Park.

The hosts will be keen to bounce back from a difficult few weeks as they lost last time out against a Sunderland side who are looking like one of, if not the team to beat in League One this season. As confirmed by Argyle’s social media team, they enjoyed plenty of the ball in that match and will feel unlucky not to have earned something from that match, but ultimately they have now lost two in a row as they had previously suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at the hands Chelsea’s under 21 side in the controversial Checkatrade Trophy.

Making the trip to Home Park is a Stevenage side who have been pretty inconsistent so far this season as they occasionally record excellent wins, but frequently let themselves down in matches you would expect them to win. The visitors also come into this match on the back of a heavy defeat in the Checkatrade Trophy as they were soundly defeated by AFC Wimbledon in a 4-0 rout. However, the competition is not considered very highly among either side’s priorities so the back to back League Two wins for Stevenage prior to that outing is probably a fairer reflection of their current form.

Both of these sides will be coming into this match with a point to prove after a disappointing outing last time out and we think that this could lead to an open, attacking match for the fans to enjoy. This, combined with the fact that five of the previous six meetings between these two sides have finished with both teams scoring, suggests to us that backing both teams to score is the way to go.
