Ponte Preta vs Juventude Predictions

Wednesday’s Brazilian Serie B action sees Ponte Preta doing battle with Juventude. With the match having been moved over 100 miles from Ponte’s regular home, due to sanctions following crowd trouble, a closer game than would normally be expected looks on the cards.

Indeed, Ponte’s ‘home’ record has been significantly impacted following the numerous punishments they received following crowd trouble last season. The side have only been able to play at their regular stadium with fans present once so far, and whilst they won that match, they’ve only taken the three points once from their other 6 ‘home’ games.

Ponte had been in good form, picking up 3 consecutive 2-0 wins that had them looking like moving into the promotion spots sooner rather than later, but a terrible 2-1 defeat to rock bottom Boa over the weekend has brought Macaca right back down to earth. Ponte were expected to make an immediate return to Serie A but if they don’t find more consistency in their showings they’ll be hard pressed to do so, irrespective of the fact they are only 2 points short of the top 4 at the time of writing.

Meanwhile, Juventude picked up a welcome 1-0 win over CRB in their weekend action. The result made it just 1 defeat in the last 13 Serie B outings for the visitors, but with just 4 of those games ending in victory, Periquito still find themselves in the bottom half.

Juventude are proving extremely hard to beat but will want to start turning draws into wins with greater regularity. 7 matches unbeaten on their travels, Juventude probably wouldn’t have feared travelling to Ponte in normal circumstances but the small home crowd expected is an advantage for the visitors all the same.

With Juventude involved, backing the draw always appeals and with Ponte arriving off the back of a poor result and struggling without a large home following, that certainly looks to be the case once again. The hosts have not really performed to expectations given the undoubted quality they possess and are expected to continue to struggle until their punishment is over.

We’re more than happy to back the points being shared at more than reasonable odds. 5 of Juventude’s last 6 away matches have ended all square and with 5 of their 9 draws overall this season ending 1-1, that’s a scoreline that looks the most likely come full time.
