Port Vale edging towards glory?

A 1-0 win over Salford on Tuesday made it three wins on the spin for Port Vale, who are now three points clear in third place as they look to secure automatic promotion.

The Valiants have had an incredible turn around over the last few months and as well as winning six of their last seven, five of which have had two or more goals in the game, they have lost just once in 17.

Their spectacular form is mirrored by what they have achieved at Vale Park where they are unbeaten in eight, picking up five wins in the process despite playing four of their promotion rivals.

Oldham fighting hard for survival

John Sheridan has certainly given Oldham a chance of staying up since returning to Boundary Park, and they come into this game on the back of successive wins over Stevenage and Leyton Orient.

He has however failed to address a dreadful away record that has seen the Latics win just twice in 15 on the road (against Stevenage and Scunthorpe), losing four of their seven games against teams in the promotion race.

They had been defeated six times in a row before the recent pair of victories and have lost their last four matches against teams in the top half of the table.
