Port Vale vs Sheffield United Predictions

Just a few short weeks ago Port Vale were looking doomed but they’re right on the cusp of the drop-zone at this moment in time and could still keep themselves afloat, although, either way, it’s going to be tight. Having beaten Wimbledon recently, Vale have once again slumped having lost each of their last two fixtures and a match against the soon to be crowned League One champions isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered.

It’s very hard to go against Sheffield United here. The visitors are within touching distance of the league title and are in good form too. The one chink in their armour in recent weeks has been their inability to keep clean sheets, having conceded in each of their last five on the road. With this in mind, the bet that stands out is ‘Sheffield United to Win & Over 2.5 Goals’. The league leaders have the ability to brush teams aside at this level and such a bet allows flexibility on the result.

When it comes to scoring goals on the road, Sheffield United have been by the far the best team in this division. With 44 goals to their name on the road, Chris Wilder’s men have failed to score in just two of their 21 away matches this season and have been in particularly good scoring away from home of late. The visitors have scored 12 goals in their last five on their travels.

What’s also interesting is the fact that the visitors have tended to do their winning away from home in high-scoring fashion. In fact, only one of Sheffield United’s 11 wins on the road has seen less than three goals go in.

Port Vale have been in reasonable form at home of late and are unbeaten in four; however, they haven’t faced the toughest teams and are in for a whole different type of challenge here. Defensively, Vale have tended to struggle somewhat against the better attacking sides. The hosts might have lost just five times at home this season, but, as previously stated, they haven’t played the imperious Blades at home yet. Also, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ landed in three of Vale’s last four losses at home.

Overall, this is a big opportunity for Sheffield United to wrap up the title and they’re fancied to do so in good style.
