FC Porto 2-1

Reason for tip

A 2-1 home win is preferred in correct score betting because the Belgians have shipped 20 in their last ten UCL aways while Porto have conceded in six of their last ten home European contests.

FC Porto vs Club Brugge Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in four of Porto’s last six Champions League games.
  • Both teams have scored in Club Brugge’s last four away Champions League games.
  • Porto have kept only one clean sheet in their last five home Champions League matches.

Dragons will miss their top scorer

Two clubs that experienced contrasting fortunes on Matchday 1 meet at the Dragao when Porto entertain Club Brugge in Group B. The Portuguese champions were cruelly denied a point by Atletico Madrid when Antoine Griezman popped up in the 11th minute of stoppage time even though only nine had been signalled by the officials.

Sergio Conceicao’s men were excellent at the Wanda Metropolitano, recording more attacks, more shots and more dangerous opportunities. But they lost and they also suffered a further blow when Mehdi Taremi was shown two yellow cards for simulation.

The Iranian star, their top scorer last season and so far this season, will be a big miss with Toni Martinez likely to come in alongside Evanilson in Porto’s attack. Worryingly, for those wanting to back the hosts at around 4/9, they have won only two of their last six UCL home games.

Inexperienced Brugge can get on the board

This is Brugge’s sixth Champions League campaign in seven years and they got off to a great start with a 1-0 home win over Bayer Leverkusen, although they were fortunate. Simon Mignolet made a couple of big saves and Patrik Schick had two efforts ruled out for offside as Carl Hoefkens’ side held on for all three points.

Brugge goalscorer Abakar Sylla was one of seven players in rookie coach Hoefkens’ line-up to make their Champions League debuts and a lack of experience at this level could cost them dear on the road. That said, they could shake things up at the Dragao by getting a goal and the hosts’ record suggests that is very possible.

Porto have kept only one clean sheet in their last five home Champions League matches and with BTTS landing in four of the Dragons’ last six Champions League games and each of Brugge’s last four away Champions League games, it looks a solid play at around evens. A 2-1 home win is preferred in correct score betting because the Belgians have shipped 20 in their last ten UCL aways while Porto have conceded in six of their last ten home European contests.
